Bagdad, Tasmania : Main Article

from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Bagdad is located north of Hobart, midway between Kempton and Pontville on the Midland Highway. The naming of the townships of Bagdad and Jericho are believed to have come about as a result of an interest in 'The Tales of The Arabian Nights' by the early settlers of the area.

The area around Bagdad was once heavily populated with orchards - mainly apples and pears. It was an important part of Tasmania's apple industry earlier this century. Now, however, the land is mainly used for farming.

Visitors are welcome to call into Milford Manor in Bagdad and view the large variety of locally made arts and crafts displayed in a beautifully restored Georgian Home.
