Alfords Point is a small southern suburb of the Sydney metropolitan region. A small strip of residential area is sandwiched by the Georges River State Recreation area, which lines two arms of the Georges River. Alfords Point is believed to have received its name after the discovery of Mount Alford in 1828. "Gillanin", the Aboriginal name for the mountain translates as "moon setting behind the mountain".
