The timeless Abercrombie Caves rest in the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, some 70 kilometres south east of Bathurst. No doubt the Abercrombie Caves held significance for the local Aboriginal population. They also appear in European colonial history, serving as the haunt of bushrangers and gold prospectors in the eighteenth century.

Today, the Abercrombie Caves are a major tourist attraction. Two spectacular show caves are opened for inspection every day of the year, featuring the southern hemisphere's largest natural limestone arch, the famous Abercrombie Archway, 200 metres long and in places over 70 metres wide and 30 metres high. The arch is an awe inspiring natural attraction and the daylight entering at both ends of the cavern produces a soft light which reflects a myriad of spectacular colours. King Solomon's Temple in the roof of the arch contains a wide variety of gold tinted formations.

Side galleries in the Arch include the Hall of Terpischore which was used by the miners as a dance floor and performance arena in years previous. Today the Hall is used for dances, concerts, Christmas Carols and weddings. The dark caves include Bushrangers Cave where gangs of escaped convicts and outlaws would seek refuge from the Law. The Caves Reserve Trust supply tour guides to lead and inform groups of interesting features. The Reserve Trust also make available educational, night or adventure tours upon request.

The Abercrombie Caves Reserve caters for accommodation within its picturesque bushland setting, with a limited number of on-site vans, and 60 camping sites. Wildlife enthusiasts can observe native fauna such as wombats, kangaroos and wallabies Other attractions in the region include seasonal fishing, gold fossicking in Grove Creek, bush walking and bird watching.
